April 1, 1944 – April 22, 2024
Roy Melvin Prestley passed away April 22nd, 2024, at the age of 80. He passed away in his home in
Addison, Alabama. He was surrounded by his wife and family. He was a devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and great grandfather who was loved dearly by his family. Funeral service will be held
Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Bell Sumiton Chapel. Family will receive guest one hour prior to
service. Burial will be at New Horizon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Bro. Jake Russell will be
officiating.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hugh and Ada Prestley, and his brothers and sisters,
Bobbie Ingle, Clayton (Bud) Prestley, Donald Prestley, Ruby Meads, Carlene Tolbert, Shirley James, Bill
Prestley, Edward (Red) Prestley, Judy Busby, and Jimmy (Pete) Prestley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret and his three children: son, Scott (Michelle)
Prestley of Morris, AL; daughter, Tracy Prestley of Dora, AL; and son, Brent (Melissa) Prestley of Essex,
MD. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Zachary (Samantha) Prestley of Hayden, AL; Matthew
(Leea) Hargrove of Hanceville, AL; Dylan (Jayme) Prestley of Berlin, MD; Tori (Anthony) Chavez of Delta
Junction, AK; Emily (Jared) Nealey of Jacksonville, NC; and Melissa (Gabriel) Denham of Athens, AL; great
grandchildren: Charlotte, Zagan, Elijah P., Elizabeth, Kortnie, Elijah D.; bonus grandchildren: Damian,
Beleth, and Kannon; his sister, Linda Snow of Jasper, AL; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Melvin and Margaret were married on June 2nd, 1967.
He was a member of Addison First Baptist Church.
He proudly served and was a Veteran in the United States Marine Corps.
He retired after 31 years from U.S. Steel.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the VA, Gentiva Hospice, family, and friends for their care and
support through this difficult time.
