With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Olen Hill Sr., affectionately known as "Big Gene," at the age of 81, in Alabama. He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments. More than just a father and grandfather, Olen was a cherished Pawpaw, a title he wore with immense pride. His passions were simple yet deeply fulfilling: the thrill of the hunt, the quiet solitude of fishing, and above all, the immeasurable joy of spending time with his loved ones.

A man of unwavering dedication and tireless work ethic, Big Gene devoted his life to providing a loving home for his family in his beloved Alabama. This was a dream he realized with unwavering determination, a testament to his character and strength. His legacy extends far beyond material success; it is etched in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage, a partnership that served as an inspiring example to all who knew them. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, and one daughter.

Big Gene is survived by his children, Deborah, Olen Jr., and Justin, along with a large and loving extended family including numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a great-great-grandchild—a vibrant tapestry of generations woven together by his enduring love.

While the pain of his absence is profound, the memories of his kindness, strength, and unwavering love will remain an enduring comfort. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at Bell Sumiton Chapel on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 2:00pm with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial to follow at Little Vine Cemetery. Bro. Hollis Alexander will be officiating.
