Mary Frances Cupps (Upton) May, age 82, of Dora, AL, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 2, 1939 in Empire, AL, the oldest daughter of D.D. and Beulah Cupps's twelve children. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Cupps, Cecil Cupps, William "Cooter" Cupps, Roger Cupps, Roy Cupps, Johnny Cupps, Charles "Bodie" Cupps and Gary Cupps; sisters, Shelby Gunter and Martha Reed; husband, Roland May; and father of her children, Lacy D. Upton.
Mary was a licensed practical nurse for twenty years at Shadescrest Nursing and Rehab Facility in Jasper, AL where she trained and mentored several nurses and certified nursing assistants who would later care for Mrs. May in her last days. The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children, Russell (Renea) Upton, Sharon (Johnny)Black and Susan (Jay) Robinson; grandchildren, Summer Upton, Sunny (Jason) Dyke, Tyler (Cynthia) Upton, Jon (Ashley) Black, Josiah (Rachel) Robinson, Isaac (Kaitlyn) Robinson, Asa Robinson and Zane Robinson; great grandchildren, Jad Dyke, James Upton, Parx Dyke, Millie Upton and Naomi Robinson; beloved brother, Stanley Cupps; sisters-in-law, Anita Cupps and Melissa Cupps Landrum; and a special host of nieces, nephews and many other family and friends who will dearly miss her.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Bell Funeral Home in Sumiton, AL on Tuesday, October 12, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Shanghi Cemetery in Quinton. Mrs. May's grandsons have the special honor of serving as her pallbearers.
The family extends their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the nursing staff and administrators of Shadescrest Nursing and Rehab for their exceptional compassion and care for their mother for the last four years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Mary May's honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center (lewybodyresourcecenter.org/donate).
