James Edward Miller Sr., age 78, of Empire, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 17, 2025. Born on January 24, 1947, James dedicated his life to his family and his friends. He retired from the City of Birmingham after working there for 35+ years, but his greatest pride was his family.

James was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known for spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren every chance he had. James was dearly loved and cherished by his family and friends. He enjoyed sharing his wisdom and warmth with all who knew him. Strong-willed and full of character, James leaves behind a legacy of love and determination. He was happiest on his back porch, taking in the quiet beauty of rural life, often with a western movie or show playing nearby—a beloved pastime that always brought him joy.

James's legacy is one of love, resilience, and dedication. Whose guidance, warmth, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though he has left this world, the memories and lessons he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

He is survived by his family, who will miss him dearly but find comfort in knowing he is at peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor him by spending time with loved ones and enjoying the simple pleasures he held dear.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Bell Sumiton Chapel.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial at Rice Chapel.
