Mr. James Orland Bridges, age 87 of the Pineywoods community died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his residence.  Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2019 at Bell Sumiton Chapel with burial in New Hope Cemetery on the Sipsey Cutoff Road.  Rev. Wayne Williams will officiate.

Mr. Bridges worked as a coal miner for 40 years.  After retiring he helped his son Randy begin his 16 year political career as a Walker County Road Commissioner.  He could also be found directing the building crews of his other son, Timmy Bridges who owned Bridges Roofing and Carpentry or helping his daughters on Saturday at their flower shop.  He loved gardening and visiting people and enjoyed raising cattle and pigs.

His greatest joy in life was his children, and grandchildren.  He spent many hours singing and dancing with them and making memories they will never forget.  Around the area he was lovingly known as "Paw-Paw" by the young and old.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Milfred and Lela Bridges; sister, Lucy Aaron; brothers, Willie Bridges, Billy Bridges, Milton Bridges, and Arley Bridges; son, Randy Bridges; grandson, Brad Bridges; and daughter-in-law, Kim Bridges.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Banks Bridges; children, Lila Farley and her husband, Paul, Timmy Bridges, and Barbara Rollo and her husband, Mike; brother, Charles Bridges and his wife, Pat; sister, Dean Aaron; grandchildren, Heather (Kelly), Kyle (Andi), Tracey, Lindsey (Bradley), Lauren, Ben, JoAmy, and Blake (Jennifer); great grandchildren, James-Taylor, Anderson, Wynn, Ella, Jordan, Harleigh, Carson, Caige, and Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
