Alfred A. Higginbotham, of Empire Al, born June 27, 1947, passed away on November 4, 2024 at UAB Highlands Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Alfred is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years; Louise Birmingham Higginbotham, his son; Richard (Donna), his daughter; Jasalynn (Troy), and his cherished grandchildren: Scotty (Heidi) Vines, Hunter (Sarra) Beaird, Shayna (Tony) Gurganus, Maghen (Ty) Anderson, Kaitlynn Beaird, Jeffre (Brittany) Wingo, Brittany Higginbotham, Jacob Vines, Kayla (Matt) Phillips, Matilynn Laurent, and Jaxon Wingo. He was also a proud grandfather to ten great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Alfred Byrd Higginbotham and Mildred Arwine Goodwin , as well as his brothers Terrell and Paul Higginbotham, and his sister Mary Higginbotham.
Alfred graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1965 and furthered his education at the Memphis School of Preaching, graduating in 1976. He served as the preacher for the Dillworth Church of Christ, Argo Church of Christ, and Aldridge Church of Christ. In addition to his ministry, he dedicated many years to coaching community baseball, sharing his passion for the sport with countless young athletes.
A treasured memory for Alfred was killing his first deer with his grandson two years ago, a testament to his love for family and the outdoors. Throughout his life, he continued to hone his skills as a welder, a trade he learned in high school, and worked in the mines for many years and he also loved wood working.
Funeral services to honor his life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bell Sumiton Chapel. Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Walker Memory Gardens Cemetery in Jasper.
